Forest Forager tour

Explore the Atlantic Rainforest on this fascinating Wild Food Walk with leading Brazilian forager, Jorge Ferreira.

A passionate mushroom hunter and experienced collector of wild plants, Jorge will share with you some of his vast knowledge of amazing local plants – their scientific and popular names, their nutritional qualities and medicinal charcteristics and where you are likely to find them. After you meet the guides, there is a short bus journey (20 minutes) up into the rainforest covered mountains behind Paraty. The wild food walk takes place on the Gold Trail, the paved road built by African slaves in the 18th century to bring gold out of the Brazilian interior and onto ships bound for Portugal. After a short talk on safety and responsible foraging Jorge will take you onto the trail into the forest, identifying and collecting amazing and tasty plants as you go. Jorge will help you identify edible plants and there will be plenty of wide ranging conversation from nutrition, medicine and herbalism to botany, cookery, horticulture and history. A fascinating and fun day out for anyone interested in wild food or just curious about the Rainforest.  The Rainforest to Picnic Table tour finishes with a delicious light lunch made with many of the plants you have foraged on the way.  Get in touch with us to learn more about pricing and availability.
